Doug the Guide. He was the man, and had no reservations about getting downright ignorant on some of the rapids. He was actually from those parts, so I felt a sort of kinship with him. I think he felt it, too. *

The first big hit of the day at "Surprise." A "Class V hit on a Class III rapid," as Doug puts it. The guides take great pleasure in trying to toss everyone but themselves.

The real irony is that, through following the commands of our guide, we repeatedly put ourselves in positions such as this. Again, our captain trying to save himself. Right about here is where I was getting speared by Celeste as she came flying across the raft...kind of a theme for the day.
